Gateway Metalworks fabricated and installed a heavy-gauge steel protection cage around a live Eskom mini substation. The structure shields the transformer from theft, tampering and accidental contact, while keeping full access for authorised technicians.
Mini substations sit exposed on pavements and verges across South Africa. They draw constant attention from copper thieves and vandals. Each breach cuts power to entire neighbourhoods and costs municipalities millions in repairs.
This project delivered a custom-welded cage sized to the existing concrete plinth. The enclosure uses a galvanised steel frame with welded mesh infill panels. A lockable service door gives Eskom crews safe entry for maintenance.
