Gateway Metalworks fabricated and installed a heavy-gauge steel protection cage around a live City of Cape Town mini substation. The structure shields the transformer from theft, tampering and accidental contact, while keeping full access for authorised technicians.
Mini substations sit exposed on pavements and verges across South Africa. They draw constant attention from copper thieves and vandals. Each breach cuts power to entire neighbourhoods and costs municipalities millions in repairs.
This project delivered a custom security mesh infill sized to the existing concrete plinth. The enclosure uses a galvanised steel frame with security infill panels. A lockable service door provides City crews with safe access for maintenance.
Some sites require security mesh infill, and for others, we installed palisade fencing, depending on the needs and requirements of the City of Cape Town.

THE CHALLENGE
THE APPROACH
